I am having the user for this particular desktop use TeamViewer as a workaround at the moment but it is driving me crazy that RDP is refusing the connection. The user is accessing via VPN, but I get the same error when trying to RDP locally as well. The solution was surprisingly simple. I uninstalled datalad and reinstalled it in a new environment via SSH.
